Entry level:  

You must hold a level 3 Sports massage qualification.


The VTCT Level 4 certificate in Sports Massage Therapy is focused towards those seeking to gain employment as a sports massage therapist providing sports massage to prevent and manage injury.
Through this qualification you will develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed
to apply sports massage methods competently to recent non-acute injury and pre-exisiting
This will include a range of massage techniques additional to those acquired at Level 3, which
include: connective tissue, soft tissue release, corrective frictions, trigger points and muscle
energy techniques.
You will develop your subjective and objective assessment skills to include clinical reasoning
and the use of a wide range of special and functional muscle test. You will be able to
give advice on treatment modalities used to support soft tissue repair at each stage of
injury. In addition you will explore a wide range of patho-physiology and acquire a deeper
understanding of anatomy and physiology through the practical application of the newly
acquired objective tests.

Course format:

Theory, Practical attendance & assessment:  8 days

Coursework: Home study and portfolio of evidence containing questions and assignment work

Training material is emailed to you.

Course content:         

USP46 Conducting subjective and objective assessment
USP47 Provide sports massage techniques to prevent and manage injury
USP48 Treatment modalities to support soft tissue repair

The home study can be started at anytime through our online portal

Self-paced home study can be started at anytime and covers GLH (Guided Learning Hours): 128. (GLH incl’s. practical, coursework, case studies, assessments)

Model Required?   

Group training = No, students will work on each other.

One to one training = Yes, you will be required to bring a model along to the practical

training to practice your routine on.

Case studies = Yes, you will be required to work on models for your case studies.

You will need to provide sufficient evidence to cover the range criteria

  Our students have been offered an amazing opportunity to apply as a volunteer at North Devon Hospice to offer treatments to carers and staff to complete their case studies.

Additional Costs:

Qualification gained:

A VRQ – VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy (QCF)

This qualification is mapped to the relevant NOS (National Occupational Standards), where applicable. This qualification is accredited on the qualifications and credit framework (QCF).  This qualification is a VRQ (Vocationally Related Qualification.)
